Summer Wreath {Chevron Dan Burlap}

Good morning! Do you remember my super cute Ruffled Muslin Wreath that I made back in March? I loved it. But I had a problem. The western sun glares on my front door and coupled with the summer heat, the hot glue melted. So, the moss and rolled fabric flowers fall off all. the. time. It looks like an ugly, hot mess {trust me on this!}, so I had to do something about it.

I decided to whip up a quick Summer Wreath with some light aqua chevron fabric left over from my Summer Mantel. This one wouldn’t fall apart like it’s predecessor.

I made this wreath in no time at all. It’s simple and easy and anyone can do it!

Supplies needed:

Cut 2.5″ wide strips of fabric. I used 6-7 strips cut perpendicular to the selvage. Wrap the wreath and secure fabric with hot glue as you go.

Create rolled burlap rosettes. I made one large and one small. I wanted this wreath to be simple. Not overdone or fancy.

I’ve tried to make rosettes out of burlap before and it doesn’t work well. They end up looking like straw hats with straw sticking out every-which-way. However, burlap ribbon has finished edges which is key to making pretty rolled flowers. I love the lightly printed design on the burlap too. 🙂

I attached the burlap rosettes with hot glue, but I also pushed straight pins through the flowers into the wreath. When the hot glue melts, the pins will hold the flowers in place.

I used some leftover jute twine to thread the pennant banner together. Then I used a sharpie to write “Happy Day” on it. At our house, we focus on being happy, doing joyful things and laughing a lot. I wanted to convey that spirit to whoever comes to our front door. 🙂

Here are a few extra pictures…

Pretty.

It is a happy day!

You may be wondering what the wreath is hanging on. It is my antique stove board. I usually use the planked side for a backdrop, but this time I went out on a limb and used the tin side. I love it!

That, my friends, is the Summer Wreath that will not fall apart. Humph. Take that glaring, hot, burning sun. You think I’m kidding? The front door handle gets so hot that I can’t touch it. I could bake a cake in the doorway in the afternoons. 😉

What’s hanging on your front door this Summer?

xoxo
